Volunteer Opportunities

Shabbat & Yontif Greeters:
We are looking for people willing to welcome members and guests to our shul on Friday or Saturday mornings during Shabbat & Yontif Services .You will need to be in the front lobby of the synagogue before services begin hand out our weekly Shabbat newsletter when they arrive. If needed, you can also direct people to head coverings and talit.

Kiddush Hostesses:
On Friday evenings and Saturday mornings, after services we come together for a Kiddush in our Social Hall. We need volunteers each week to help prepare a Kiddush, serve it and help clean up at the end.

Programming:
We are always looking for creative people who are willing to work on a Programming committee. This committee plans and executes all of the major programming that goes on in the shul.

Kitchen Helpers:
Do you like to cook or to bake? Do you have wonderful recipes that you enjoy sharing with others? Are you handy with a butcher’s knife or a spatula? If so, you might want to consider becoming a CSC Kitchen Helper. We are always in need of people to help prepare dinners, luncheons, to bake for future events.

Fundraising Events:
Help Plan events to raise funds for the synagogue. If you are interested in joining this committee or working on a specific fundraising event, please contact us.

High Holy Days:
There are lots of things you can do before and/or during the Holiday Services. The volunteer effort is key to the success of the High Holy Day experience.

Minyan Attendees:
Our tradition requires 10 adults be present to say certain prayers, including Kaddish for a deceased relative. We count men, women and all post Bar/Bat Mitzvah teens in our minyan. Please consider making the commitment to come to just one regular minyan per week to help reach that magical number 10. If you live close by and are willing to come to shul on notice when we are in need, please contact us and we will put you on our minyan call list.

ANNUAL FUNDRAISERS

Fireworks Booth / July 1-4

• On July 1st (early am): we need 3 people for box moving and hoisting and 3 people to help setup inside the booth.
• July 1st thru 4th: We need people to staff the booth. 9 am-12, 12-3, 3-6 and 6-9 pm.  We appreciate as many sessions as you can give us.
• July 1, 2, & 3: we need people to sleep in the booth
• July 2, 3, & 4: / 6 am-9 am: we need someone to sit on the booth, drinking coffee and reading to relieve the sleepover person until we open.
• July 4: / 9 pm: we need at least 1 or 2 strong people to for pack-up and clean-up.

Our Fireworks Booth is located in the CVS pharmacy Lot:
5505 E. Carson St., (Corner of Bellflower & Carson) in Lakewood

Rummage Sale / Friday following Thanksgiving

In October we begin collecting items for our Annual Rummage Sale.  Please donate only items that are clean and gently used.  Please; no electronics (including computers, computer software) and TV’s.

Housewares & children’s items are very popular. Pretty things like jewelry are also good, as well as, the usual clothing items.  Please don’t bring things that are  broken or damaged in any way.  When in doubt call us.   When you bring the items, please place them on the back of the stage.

We will also be needing people to help set-up, sell and clean-up after the sale.  You will see our posts on the home page when the time is near.   The rummage sale hours are usually 8:00 am – 2 pm.
