The first observance this September will be for the Selichot (forgiveness) service. Selichot prepares us spiritually for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur which follow soon after. The Selichot service is held on a Saturday evening before Rosh Hashanah. At the Selichot service, we begin to examine our deeds of the past year. We seek forgiveness from God and promise to improve our behavior in the coming year.
The Religious Practices Committee extends to you a warm-hearted invitation to join us for the Selichot service on Saturday, September 16, 2017. It is our tradition at Congregation Shir Chadash to gather with friends at 8:00 p.m., prior to the evening service, to view a film. The content is intended to guide us as we reflect on our own actions over the past year. After the film, there will be a. brief discussion before the service begins at 10:00 p.m.
